KEEPING YOU AND YOUR DOG HEALTHY

Keeping your dog healthy should be top priority. But should it be more important than your own health? The steps to keep a dog healthy are the same to caring for yourself. So while you’re putting in the time to take care of your pooch, do yourself a favor and use it as motivation to keep yourself healthy as well.

Nutritious Diet

Dogs need a nutritious diet just as much as we do. You know that proper nutrition affects your dog’s weight, coat, skin, energy, and stomach but did you realize that what we eat affects us in the same way? So as you’re watching out for signs in your dog about how they handle their food, extend yourself the same courtesy and note how your food makes you look and feel. Improving the diet of both you and your dog will go a long ways to improving overall health.

Exercise

When your dog lacks attention in the exercise department he’ll tell you through a spout of bad behavior. You may not have exercised in a while, but look at your actions… are they self-destructive or poor? This may be a sign that both you and your pal need to get in some regular exercise. In general, dogs need between one and two hours of exercise each day, and we all know that we can benefit from some exercise. So, as you’re letting your dog release some of that energy, try to release some of your own as well. You may just find that you enjoy it and the benefits that come with it like improved sleep, a positive outlook on life, increased productivity, improved self-esteem, more energy, and a decrease in stress.

Check-ups

Taking your dog to the vet may be part of your normal routine, but is attending your own doctor’s appointments part of that routine? Your time at the vet is the best time for you to ask questions about health and behavior, and prevent anything that would cause a decrease in health. Well, as uncomfortable as it is, your doctor’s visits are for the same reasons. Attending the doctor regularly will keep your health in check and make you aware of anything in your health that you can improve or prevent. You do that for your dog, so why not do the same for yourself?

A dog is man’s best friend, but before you can be a friend to someone else, you first need to be a friend to yourself. So, take the time to take care of you and your dog in all the necessary areas to keep yourself healthy. You both will find that your improved health does a lot more for your outlook on life than you thought it would. So what are you waiting for? Start the journey to a better life for you and your best pal.
